On April the 6th, 2011, I decided to walk around the edge of the UK to highlight the experiences of people with mental health problems, illness, maladies, issues, whatever you want to call them, to highlight the fact that many of us feel on the edge of society.
Following the philosophy of Satish Kumar, a Jain monk who went on a peace march in the 1960s, I took no money with me. I relied purely on the kindness of the beautiful people I met on my way.
Spoiler alert! 100% of the people I met on the way were fabulous! They gave me everything from a few kind words of support, to a two week stay in their family home!
That was just the start. Join me as we change our small part of the world...trust me, it'll be fun...
Walk a Mile in My Shoes & The Penis Dialogues - Podcasts for Social Change

I swear, my guests swear, sometimes a lot. Except on my new community radio show on Welcombe Radio...apparently OFCOM have something to say about that!
Make no mistake, men are in crisis, and it's up to us to do something about it.
We talk about everything from love to hate, from what it's like to live with someone with a label of Borderline Personality Disorder to the challenges presented to people working in mental health.
We talk about institutional prejudice and discrimination in mental health services and what we need to do to change that.
We talk with men about men and how we need to change.
It's a book, it's a blog...sometime in the future it's a film. It's whatever you want it to be.
In the words of every cheesy 1950s radio presenter, Walk a Mile is nothing...and I do mean literally noting...without you.
As well as joining me on the podcasts, you can follow me on Twitter or join our lovely Facebook group.

or accepting criticism from those same friends when you go awry, it's all about collaboration.
If we work together, we can be the change we want to see in the world...yes, I know, Gandhi never said that...
A walk around the edge of the UK - because that's where people labelled with mental health problems, issues, problems, maladies, illnesses, whatever you care to call them, often find themselves - on the edge
Walk a Mile - The Book! Available in all good bookshops...and of course, Amazon
Walk a Mile in My Shoes is available wherever you get your podcasts...feel free to dive in...
With a new episode out every week, it would be rude not to like, subscribe and join in with the conversation - free wherever you get your podcasts
Coming very soon...and I mean, right, dead soon...Walk a Mile is coming to a Community Radio Station near you.
Think of the Walk a Mile in My Shoes Podcast without the swearing, and where my guests get me to play the music that's important to them.
Sounds great, eh? If only I can get those pesky levels just right...
Seriously though, it's all about demonstrating that ordinary people have extraordinary stories to tell
Look, I appreciate this isn't a sound business model, but very soon (how many times can I say 'very soon' and get away with it?
No matter - very soon there'll be two new additional podcasts to the Walk a Mile in my Shoes Gig.
First of all, we'll have the Read along a Wandering Loon Podcast, where the delightful will join me as we read through my book, 'Walk a Mile: Tales of a Wandering Loon' with a critical eye. Yes, it'll be free, and no, you don't have to buy the book!
Finally, since you've invested so much time and energy in this malarky, I thought I'd repay you with a free (there's that word again) audiobook that I've written and will read to you, one chapter a week...
What do you mean, 'What's that got to do with anything?' It's my website, and I can do what I want!
It's called 'Octopus!' and I loved writing it. It's speculative fiction and, you're right, it really has nothing to do with all this campaigning stuff...
Think of 'My Octopus Teacher' with bells on
Only if you want to though. All this content is free. Any donations will help towards the cost of the website (Yeah, I know - I actually pay for this!) and upgrading my equipment.
If Patreon's not your thing, feel free to buy me a coffee on Ko-Fi (You don't have to - it's still all free!)
Wherever you are in the world, get in touch if you want to be on a podcast. Tell your story on Walk a Mile, or help me change the world with The Penis Dialogues! You'll be very welcome.
