This is a picture of me, Chris Young. My lovely wife, Ella, made me put it up.
The Penis Dialogues started out life as ‘Gammon Stakes’, primarily since I momentarily held the mistaken belief that this group of men stood out as a part of our society who required most attention.
After 30 seconds research, I found this was clearly not the case, and that the concerns I raise below permeate all males – from 0-120.
In an attempt to make some sense of all the issues, I’ve split this project into 3 parts;
1) Podcasts – as many as I like, interviewing men between the ages 18 and 120 - mainly because of the legality of issues around informed consent, I felt that (currently) drawing the line at 18 is the sensible thing to do. I appreciate that effectively amputates thousands of younger, equally valid, voices – so I’m open to discussions around that.
2) The show – in true footballification style, once I feel my head’s full with enough information from my contributors, I’ll produce a show that’s split into 2, 45-minute sections, with a 15-minute break in between – possibly with a pie…or orange halves, depending on your perspective.
3) If all that goes well, (I mean, with all these moving parts, what could possibly go wrong?) then I’ll stick it in a book, in an attempt to widen the discussion. Of course, the problem with a book is that it’s a static entity…and this conversation has to be…it must be, fluid.
Throughout the discussions/ podcasts and shows I will not use anyone’s information without their express permission. If that means deleting a whole 1 and a half hours of podcast recording, then that has to be fine. This has to be built on consensus.
This isn’t just about raising issues – my aim is to get contributors to commit to change – however small – because the situation as it stands is utterly unacceptable.
